From Murphy

1.2.67-89Question: What does our introduction to Hamlet tell us about his relationship with the other characters in the play thus far? What does it reveal about him?Although this is the first time we hear from Hamlet, we learn a lot about him in the first 22 lines of the play. We learn about his relationships with his father and other characters around him, and about his personality. For example, we see how he is still grieving for his father, showing that his relationship with him was strong. Also, these few lines reveal that Hamlet is trustworthy and nothing like his uncle/step father claudius. From getting all this information out of only 22 lines, we can guess that the rest of the play will be packed with as much information as in these lines, and every action and spoken word is important. (For example, the first thing we see from Hamlet is an aside, which shows his witty character.)
