Invisible man=everything, everywhere

Hey everyone!

I've been reading Vanity Fair over college week and I suddenly had one of those lovely "it all relates!" epiphanies. The name of the black servant at Miss Pinkerton's school (in Vanity Fair) is named Sambo. I guess this is a name for the cliche, servile black man as imagined in the era of Imperialism and obviously for a while thereafter. Indeed, I Googled it and found this sort of nasty cartoon.

At the bottom, in case you can't see, it says:
LINCOLN: 'I'm sorry to drop you, Sambo, but this concern won't carry us both!'
